May is a month when our 2018 adult and youth classes are announced and our program blooms for another year! We so appreciate our alumni who helped with over 60 adult interviews last month as we sorted out next year’s program. It is exciting to be part of a program where so many from so many walks of life want to be involved for one reason – to make Spokane better. This month we focus on Healthy Community and how our leadership classes can step in and contribute to the health of others. We have also added mental health as part of our Adult discussion this month as that is a topic that affects so many both here locally and nationally. Our Youth program will conclude its 2017 year visiting The Spokesman-Review and reflecting on how special our community is. Our youth also will complete their final service project of the year with Blessings Under the Bridge mid-May. Youth applications close out May 15 for Class of 2018. We are looking for all interested high school youth who also want to learn about servant leadership and our great community. Our adult leaders have likewise completed four service projects, doing good for the community. It has been inspiring to witness so much support given to those in need. That is our mission; that is our calling. We are here for Spokane, we are here for others and as a program, we are excited to expand, ramping up for a new year! We know that Leadership matters … Spokane matters … and citizenship matters. We are three-decades strong and getting stronger. Our distinguished Board of Directors and Ms. Ruth Reynolds, Ms. Jaxon Riley and I are committed to building upon our proud past for a fantastic future. Leadership Lights the Way! – Brian Newberry
